In the Foundation Stage, Nursery and Reception work and play together. Our classrooms are full of exciting areas, such as role play, sand and water, small world play, craft and a malleable table. Outside we have our own trim trail where we can climb and balance. Activities that will eventually help us hold a pencil, form letters and draw pictures. We love playing outside and take advantage of all the different weather conditions. A windy day could see us making kites. A freezing day means ice exploration and a rainy day could see paint mixing in puddles.
Making friends and playing together is very important to us. In nursery we learn to share and take turns, to think of others, to follow instructions and value what our friends say to us. We learn songs and nursery rhymes to help us understand rhyme and alliteration. We even begin to learn some single sounds using Jolly Phonics and Letters and Sounds. We begin to recognise numbers and count objects.
During the year we have regular visits to our Forest School where we can build dens, climb trees and cook in the mud kitchen. Our links with the local community has seen us arrange visits from the Police and the Fire Service. They brought a police car and a fire engine onto our playground. They showed us how to make the sirens work and how to squirt water out of the hose! During the summer, we venture on an exciting trip with Reception to places like The Sealife Centre at Hunstanton, or Pigeon Farm at Thorney.
