Reading We have enjoyed reading a wide range of texts from a variety of different authors. We enjoyed reading stories from a range of cultures, repetitive phrases and even poetry. This term we have been learning to read with increased fluency and we are trying to use more expression.
The children have all worked very hard to learn all the words in Humpty Dumpty’s word wall – Well Done!

Writing In writing activities we have been learning to write sentences that have a capital letter and a full stop.
We have tried to include adjectives in our writing to make it more exciting. We used our senses to taste, smell, touch different fruits and food types, we then used the adjectives we thought of to write poems.
In our classroom we have created a toy museum, we have written labels, lists and captions to give information about each of the toys.

Maths
In maths we have worked hard to do so many new things!
We started the year by revising number formation and beginning to write calculations using symbols + - =.
We have looked at the different ways we travel to school and how to make a graph of the information we collected. Also we have started to learn to tell the time and have enjoyed weighing, measuring and filling containers of different sizes.

In the outdoor area we have thoroughly enjoyed searching for bugs and looking at them through the hand lens and digital microscope! We then looked at the natural habitats the bugs would live in. During the autumn we used the fallen leaves to create some habitats for them. The outdoor area has provided us with so many learning opportunities we have enjoyed the sensory garden, weeding and preparing the ground for the winter months.
Barnaby Bear enjoyed learning about the world around us and has been visitng each of the children at home for a night. The children have enjoyed taking him home, looking after him and visitng lots of special places.
In science we have been learning about our senses and how light and dark are different. We have been thinking about the animals that appear at night and have drawn some of them in chalk or charcoal. We had a fantastic pyjama party in school with our teddies! We listened to stories and played lots of games before having a cup of milk and a biscuit. Barnaby Bear had a great time seeing all of our teddy bear friends.

We have been learning about our local area. PC Vines came in to talk to us about road safety. We then went on a walk of the local environment looking at changes that have occured in out locality.
